I’m not naturally crafty, thin or clean

I don’t scrapbook, I would be pretty plump if I didn’t work at it, and we all know my feelings about cleaning.

Although I am not naturally these ways, I have been working recently to FORCE myself through the inertia to get moving.

I picked the girls up from school last Tuesday. By that time of day I am usually exhausted. Another mom mentioned she was going to Scrap. This is the second time I had heard of this place. A reader had sent a link earlier and I had really wanted to check it out, so I decided to overcome my tiredness and go with all three girls.

Scrap is located in an industrial section of the city. It is a non-profit and they do manage to organize a whole bunch of junk. You never know what you will find. It’s worth a visit to see for yourself.

Everything is labeled well

We got TONS of stuff. I had decided we were going to decorate pumpkins instead of carving this year. (carved ones always mold and rot in my apartment hallway) The girls picked out things to decorate their pumpkins. Chloe decided her pumpkin was going to be a princess. She found fabric and a crown. I got a bag of buttons and a number of other things. We spent $9.00.

Saturday came around and I loaded up the art supplies and all the things we had bought and we made our way over to Lafayette to spend the day with some good friends. They had the pumpkins there waiting for us.

They ended up carving the little ones, but we left them there.

Chloe’s initial design

Face, crown and ribbon hair done

Cutting the fabric for the dress

We pinned the dress on with paperclips.

Chloe drew the face for her sister to paint

Let’s paint it all red!!!

Almost finished

Break time. That swing is over 100 years old.

Mask prep

Paint it black

It looks a little like Catman… but it’s supposed to be Batman

This one is mine. Buttons and other bits of things.

They have little personalities

I am so happy I got my butt in gear and did this project with my girls. These are the kinds of things I remember about my childhood.

  1. These are gorgeous punkins!

I am so glad you found SCRAP as much fun as I do! Funny coincidence, the first time I went, I spent $9 too. Came away with so much crocheting yarn and other stuff, it filled the trunk of my car.

    • Thanks Jo Anne! So happy you told me about the place or I would have NEVER found it. I added an extra dollar to what I paid them because it was such a good price so I gave em 10. Chloe and Ella also loved the cats they have there of course and wanted to donate to the “cat food fund”
