Day Dreaming

When I was young I dreamt of a valley surrounded by steep hills and cliffs specked with wildflowers. Through the valley was a path that led to the ocean which you could see just a hint of on the horizon. I painted this image when I was in high school. I did not think such a place really existed until my husband took me there 12 years ago.

Tennessee Valley Trail

Ok enough with the dreamy talk. This hike rocks hard core. It works with kids. It dumps out into one of the prettiest beaches in Northern California and since you can only get there by doing the hike, the people that end up there are cool.

Here is the link to the hike and directions on how to get there. Click Here

There are many offshoots from the main trail and you can actually end up hiking all along the coast and up into the hills if you want to.

Ella was able to walk most of it but did go through a heavy dose of complaining.

My friend’s Instagram shot of getting Ella through a “rough patch” where her 5 year old legs were somehow broken.

By the end of the day though she was running the trail and having a great time.

Amazingly beautiful rocks along the hike

The Beach

More Beach- There is no access to this spot except by way of the trail

Chloe, Ella and Michelle in the distance searching for treasures

What did you find?

Quiet time with Phoebe. The stroller made it the whole way, but bring a jogging stroller or one with big wheels.

Ella got wet head to toe when she fell under the surf. She was in shallow water and her dad was right next to her to pick her up. The waves get pretty choppy here.

I don’t think I need to say much else to make you want to go here. It’s like heaven on Earth.

  1. I think some scenes from the movie, The Black Stallion, were filmed here.
The ones where the boy managed to get up on his back and they were galloping in the water with the sun glinting off the waves and his hooves.

    • It was filmed in the bay area, but I don’t know if it was filmed in this exact spot. I don’t think the beach is long enough here. We should go!!

  2. All right, now I want to go! So, in order to walk 1.7 miles, I guess I’ll have to train for, say, 2 months? Maybe 3 months? Oh, yeah. I’ll have to train at least 4 months because I’ll have to walk BACK, right? Wish I had a mom who could carry me when MY legs break! But I’m so going! I really am!
