Chloe’s new room update!

Before

Before

Looking at this picture I am reminded of news stories where they found the hostages locked in the basement…. YIKES!! This is the location Steve and I set out to renovate into Chloe’s new room. It had been flooded a number of times due to a broken pipe in the upstairs bathroom and mushrooms had started to grow in the carpet. Yes, MUSHROOMS WERE FRICKING GROWING IN MY HOUSE. Steve had ripped up all the carpet and taken off the baseboards that were moldy.

This is a bonus area in the downstairs of our unit. It is attached to a full bath. I had dreamed of turning it into a large laundry area but we had the third baby instead. That’s Ok, I like Phoebe a lot. So the baby will eventually move in with Ella and Chloe gets her new room.

The New Floor

First step was putting in the new floor. We used remnants from Linoleum Larry’s down on Lombard Street. We got a great deal. I did linoleum just in case there was another flood down there and I kinda think it’s cool.

The next step was going to the home store so Chloe could pick out the color paint she wanted. I did not guide her at all. I just let her pick it out.

The girls and I painted the room. I was just going to do the back wall, but Ella convinced me to do all three. She was right.

This was my first trip to Ikea to scope out what I was going to buy. I knew I needed to go without Steve the first time so I would be able to just take my time and look. Steve can only handle so much of Ikea before he goes totally nuts and demands we leave immediately. I don’t blame him.

On our way to buy the loft bed.

We made it in and out of Ikea in 40 minutes! I even got to pick out some things that were not on the list!

Here is where we are at so far. I still need to do some touch ups on the painting and we need to put in the baseboards and new lighting. She also needs new bedding, but I think this is a good start! The desk is an amazing antique roll-top that was used in her Grandpa’s chiropractic office in the 60′s and the lamp belonged to my mom. The rug and bed are from Ikea.

I’ll keep you posted as we get more done, but I am happy it doesn’t look like a scary torture den anymore and lucky for me this sweet girl really likes it.

  1. Way cool! She really needed that.

When I was a kid, we had a half-bath in our basement that I turned into a small “hanging out” room. It was too small for a bed. It gave me a way to get away from the younger siblings. Now, I would not be as interested in the space. But I do have Ikea furniture in my new home office, and I love it! Ikea is great!

    • Yes, this space is great for her. We need to make it a little more cozy and fix up the bathroom. There is still so much to do, but she really needed the space away from her sister. Putting them to bed has become way easier.

    • I know Jamie… I load the pictures as I write and I looked at it and all I could think of was scary kidnappings!!

  2. Good for you to let Chloe pick the paint! I love the color! My mother loves to tell me how her father let her make decisions at a very young age (like 6) but she had to live with the consequences.and she learned really fast. She is a Libra and still
makes pros and cons lists when faced with an important decision.
