The Wizard of Oz Show

I remember every time I have seen a live show. There is something that happens when you see theater that does not compare to just watching a movie or a TV show.

I think even more so I remember watching theater when I was younger. The shows were larger than life and created a lasting impression of endless creative possibilities.

I had been given two tickets to The Wizard of Oz show. I had planned to take one of my good friends, but was a little disappointed that I would not be able to take the girls.

The morning of the show while doing my blogging duties I retweeted a chance to win two tickets. I figured I would let my followers (all 150 of them) on Twitter know about the opportunity.

An hour later I found out I won the tickets! At first I was going to reject them but then I realized I COULD TAKE THE GIRLS!

I was so excited for them.

I picked them up from school, told them the good news and they were pretty much jumping up and down the rest of the day.

We had a great night. The show was very entertaining and great for ages 5 and up. The show is pretty true to the original film but each actor does a very excellent job of making the character their own and not just replaying what has been done before.

The thing I enjoyed the most was sitting next to Ella. All the questions she was asking, all the things she said and seeing the theater through her eyes.

“When is it going to start?”

“That man is fat.”

“I’m scared of the witch when it’s gonna pop out!”

“Let’s count the letters of the rows.” (She then made me sing the alphabet song)

“I like it better than the movie!”

“Look at the lights!”

“Is that house real?”

“Mom it’s real!”

“My favorite part was when they all bowed.”

Chloe was sitting with my friend up in the balcony. She pretty much loved every minute and especially loved that the tin man tap danced.

On our way to the theater. You always know you are going to have a good night when you find great parking.

We could not take pictures of the show of course, but the inside was so beautiful!

I strongly advise taking your kids to SHN’s Wizard of Oz or catching the show when it comes to your city.

  1. So glad you got the opportunity to go and take the girls. Live theatre is amazing! I used to be very involved in community theatre and also in college. There is nothing like the creativity of a live musical! And the Orpheum is such a great venue. I saw SHOWBOAT there! :-) I hope you get to take the girls to more musicals and plays. It’s a bit too bad tickets are so expensive these days, but there is always community theatre too which is a lot less expensive…(although seeing a bad community theatre production is like going to a laundromat and watching your clothes spin around in the dryer…about that exciting). Gotta read the reviews first.
