Stage Mom Confessions

My 3 girls have all worked as models and actors. They have done National television commercials and numerous print campaigns. For the most part this has been really good for them.

I have many people contact me asking for advice on how to get their children started in the modeling or acting business. When you are first considering getting your children into something like this it can seem a little overwhelming. Is it right for your child? What will it be like? What is the commitment involved? Will it ruin them? How do you even get started?

I work as a consultant for parents with kids in this industry. My whole goal is to keep the activity stress free for both parents and kids. If you have knowledge and insider tips it can really calm the whole process down and make it enjoyable to take your kids on auditions and bookings. It can be quite fun spending time with your child doing shoots and it’s possible your child will gain confidence and pride connected with the work that can influence other aspects of their life.

I want to use this blog to give free advice to parents who are interested in this sort of thing and want more information about what to do.

I have my series of blog posts I am working on covering the various stages but if you have additional questions or even just want a live person to bounce things off of, feel free to contact me at jen@oururbanplayground.com.

If you would like, leave your questions in the comments below so I can answer them and everyone can benefit from the info.

  1. It’s great to read this and your other post. People are constantly saying my almost-3-year-old daughter should be in entertainment or modeling because of her funny personality and sweet looks. But, after reading your other post, my fears of time (two other kids with busy schedules) and focus (I mean, she’s two) are probably justified. That and not knowing how the heck to even find an agent, of course. I’ll look forward to following your posts!

    • Hi Amy! Well the clients usually know the attention span of a 2 year old is limited and do things to work around that. At 2 I would say the ability to get along with people you have just met is the best quality to have.

Here is my post on how to get started and find an agent. It is pretty easy actually!

Thanks for coming by the blog!
