“Who ate the ice cream?”

After a long minute in which they were totally convinced it must have been my brother, I raised my little hand.

“It was me.”

I don’t think I ever told my parents how I ate it though. Slowly, over an afternoon scooping it out with my fingers.

Yes, the first time I actually remember having to have a sit down discussion about my behavior was over Dryer’s French Silk Ice Cream.

When Dryer’s contacted me a few weeks ago asking if they could send us some of their new flavors it all came flooding back to me. The fact that my whole childhood the only ice cream we ever bought was Dryer’s, the flavor my mom liked, and of course sitting on the side of my parents bed feeling really embarrassed but also a little happy I had gotten the last of it before anyone else could.

The new flavors arrived on dry ice and I immediately hid them in the back of the freezer so the girls wouldn’t see them. (Of course I sampled a little bit first.)

I let the girls know that we would be having an ice cream party where there would be no rules or inhibitions. They could eat the ice cream before dinner. They could eat as much as they wanted and in any way they wanted. They specifically told me they would never eat it with their fingers, but the idea of eating it right out of the carton was very exciting.

Surprisingly enough when there were no rules they actually ate a completely moderate amount, enjoyed themselves very much, chose their favorite flavors and ran off to play while I stuck around and ate way too much. The Sunny Salted Caramel Pretzel was my weakness this time. Total Yum.

 

Dryer’s did not pay us for this post, unless you count 1/2 gallon tubs a good form of currency.
