Our Day In Monterey

Last week a friend checked if our family would be available for a photo shoot down in Monterey on some promotion of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Steve is still out of town, but Erin (Steve’s son and the girls’ brother) is here with us. He is just a few years younger than I am so I submitted him to play the girls’ dad.

We were so happy when they chose us.

We got in the night before and settled into our hotel beds for an early morning call. After hair and make up we arrived at the aquarium before it was open to the public. It was quite an experience to be the only people in there.

I had never been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I had heard so many good things about it and it really did live up to all the hype. The space and building itself is all grey. This highlights the ocean and the sea life that is on display there. You really feel a strong connection and care for the ocean being fostered and enhanced. You could spend hours just exploring and learning. The section for the younger kids is incredible with tons of things for tots to do.

I didn’t get too many shots of our day because I was mostly working, but I got a few.

This pretty much sums up how excited she was.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I tell ya, it is the most amazing aquarium I have ever been to.

The rays have learned to stay away from the edges during open times with lots of people, but when we were there they were swimming right by the sides and the girls had so much fun petting them. I did not pet them because I’m a wimp. I did hold a starfish though.

Phoebe got in on a lot of the action too. I was glad she didn’t put the starfish in her mouth.

Our photographer was wonderful. He has three boys of his own. He interacted with the girls really well.

Our shoot ended at around 11. We then stayed for a while exploring some more before we headed back.

I want to thank the Monterey Bay Aquarium for giving us such a special experience. I want to go back!
