Skinny Days

Today was my last day before going back to work after the leave I took to address the flood on bottom floor of our apartment.

Phoebe had an audition today which I was going to get her up early for but she was just so cozy looking so we were a little late.

The girls went to our church in the morning to take some classes while I handled the audition with Phoebe and finalized some details for the house.

After picking them up we headed to Cole Valley for lunch.

I have not spent much time in this section of the city. Down the street from where we ate was the coolest children’s store called Tantrum. Ella picked out a yoyo and Chloe a clothes pin reading light for her book.

Ella told me she visited this shop on a field trip with her school. They were exploring community helpers.

I am pretty sure this works. The girls weren't interested… i guess they are getting older.

You really get lost looking at all the little things.

I love these little mice.

Phoebe has two. One was a gift and the other I got on sale because they are crazy expensive.

Chloe took this shot of me. I’ve been eating really awful lately and was shocked to get on the scale this morning to see I had not gained any weight. I have no idea how that is possible, but I’ll take it. It’s too bad I’m so vain that the number on the scale will elevate my whole day.

Up the hill from Cole Valley is a large medical center where we went to pick up Chloe’s glasses. We found out recently that she has pretty poor eye sight. The glasses opened up a whole new world to her today and the difference in her perception and reaction time was astonishing.

My friend gave me this. Yep.

Phoebe started a new daycare she is very much so enjoying. She gets to play with more kids and she has been happy when I drop her off and when I pick her up. It’s a few more hours a week than I had before and it’s freeing me up so that I can get more done. In turn I’ve had more time to spend just with her playing and getting on the floor with her for cuddles and tickles.

This dog here is turning into a man dog and has been quite annoying and somewhat aggressive lately (mostly with other dogs). I met a great dog trainer who has been helping me. We are working on my overall handling of him by establishing regular eye contact and my ability to calm him and control him in any situation. She stresses training him to win and not to just avoid things that will trigger him. Bring him into situations which may trigger bad behavior, discipline him and then allow him to approach the area or dog again. He usually does better after that and gets rewarded. It’s working.

Aren’t skinny days grand?

  1. Jen, what you said about your dog’s training seems like it could apply to kid raising.

regular eye contact and ability to calm and control in any situation…..
training to win and not to just avoid things that will trigger bad reactions. Bring into situations which may trigger bad behavior, discipline (teach?) and then allow them to try again. …..does better after that and gets rewarded. It’s working.

P.S. I got glasses when I was 8 years old and I was so excited! All of a sudden I could see the pins at the end of the bowling alley! and I could then knock them down! Kids started picking me to be on their teams.
I walked around saying Everything is so Crystal Clear!! Maybe I need new glasses now.

P.S.S. is that wall that you are standing in front of….near Tantrum? You look good!!

  2. You are such a good mom! It is easy to see, because your kids exude beauty and contentment, even in pictures.
