Wheeling

When you live in San Francisco where some of the hills are like black diamond ski runs the idea of letting your kids go outside and learn to ride their bikes is not that workable. It’s a lot different than when my dad taught me on the flat streets of Evanston, Illinois. Right out our front door here is a steep hill!

Ella was determined to ride her bike without training wheels and had been practicing daily in the front entry way of our building using the wall to balance herself as she got going.

This weekend we went to Golden Gate Park. The streets are closed on Sundays so there are no cars in the entire park. It is a perfect place to master two-wheeled strategies. Before I knew it the girls were riding their bikes all over the place while Steve and Erin (Steve’s son and the best big brother the girls could EVER have) rode their skateboards along with them.

I even got a chance to learn how to skateboard for the first time. I loved it!

We arrived and had a picnic. There were the most beautiful poppies!
